NY Red Bulls legend names Maxwell Woledzi as best defender in MLS
GhanaSoccernet ·

MLS legend Bradley Wright-Phillips has named Ghanaian Maxwell Woledzi as the best defender in the league. The Right to Dream Academy graduate has taken the MLS by storm in his debut campaign, playing a crucial role in helping Nashville sit comfortably on top of the table in the Eastern Conference. With the regular season heading to an end, Wright-Phillips, who spent most of his time with New York Red Bulls, selected his best players of the 2026 season, with the Ghanaian making his list.Although he did not make his cut for the newcomer of the year, Wright-Phillips believes Woledzi is the reason Nashville have the meanest defence in the league."Maxwell Woledzi helped Nashville reach another level this season. The Ghanaianâs strength, energy and passing range have anchored the leagueâs best defense, and heâs chipped in the odd goal or two as well. Thatâs a common recipe for Defender of the Year," he said.Woledzi has made 30 appearances for Nashville in the MLS, scoring two goals and delivering an assist. The former FC Nordsjaelland and Vitoria SC centre-back joined Nashville in January 2026 from Norwegian side Fredrikstad.By Lukman Abdul MuminÂ
