Naqvi for waging efforts for restoring peace in KP

LAHORE: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has asked the political leaders to set aside their differences and work together to address Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s security challenges. “What Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) requires right now is peace, stability and collective efforts, but not political confrontation,” Naqvi said while talking to media informally, here Friday. The Interior Minister maintained that the KPK was facing serious challenges hence collective approach was required on the part of political leaders. He urged politicians to play their role to restoring law and order and eliminating terrorism instead of fuelling tensions or spreading chaos. Efforts aimed at addressing terrorism and improving security should take precedence over political disputes, he said, adding, “The province (KPK) needed cooperation to overcome its current challenges.” He also criticised political leaders over their alleged reliance on the establishment in the past, questioning their motives amid discussions surrounding Governor’s Rule in KPK. He said some politicians were now raising concerns about the resources of the former Federally Administered Tribal (FATA) areas districts despite remaining silent for years when those areas were allegedly denied their rightful share. He claimed that the head of a political party was deeply displeased over not being given a share in Governor’s Rule or the office of governor. He said those who had developed their political careers with such support were now pointing fingers at others. “These are the very politicians who, for decades in the past, relied on the establishment to sustain their politics,” he said. He questioned whether such politicians were justified in criticising others today, saying political differences should not become an excuse for accusations and confrontational rhetoric.
